Our Wednesday night Open Mic & Band Jam has gotten off to a great start! Wednesday May 12th was our first night which means we are coming up to our 1 Month anniversary. People are using words like “Awesome”, “feels like a party”, and “…so much fun!” to describe our event. I want to convey that we have already had a tremendously positive response, and we cordially invite you come out this Wednesday to our Open Mic & Band Jam event.

This will be an Open Mic with a House Band — hosted by the band THE END. They play both originals & classic rock covers. Here is their facebook link:

This is a FREE series. Singers & Musicians are invited to play solo, perform along with the House Band, or join in & Jam! We are excited at the prospect of this becoming an outlet for many types of motivated Singers & Musicians to perform, network, and interact with other performers.

We also welcome Friends & Fan of live music. The 2nd Floor of Downey’s has a full bar and tables, as well as menu service — including their wonderful & inexpensive brick oven pizzas!

And Chris the bartender is serving up some cheap drink specials, including $2 pint size drafts of Yuengling Lager.

Besides this event being FREE, parking on South Street on Wednesdays is also FREE.

Dirk Quinn Band Update

By

The band just returned to Philly yesterday from another one of its Southeastern trips. We rocked, we jazzed, and we most definitely funked! We were asked to turn down a few times – not sure that we were ever asked to turn up though… hmmm. I blame Zeeger …and Mikey …and Stephen for that matter! We got to play with the best band in the South (check out the Will Cash Quartet – you’ll be glad you did!). Mikey and I got to sit in with the undisputed kings of Carolina funk, Yo Mamma’s Big Fat Booty Band! Mikey even got to play with Taylor Hicks’ keyboardist in Birmingham. We hit the Gulf and stood on a moonlit beach 12 hours before the oil hit – beautiful! We even got Zeeger drunk one night!!!

You can check out the pics from the tour on any of the band members’ facebook pages as well as the DQB facebook fan page. (Although I might be the only one who has posted any pics yet… just a heads up!)

The Lindsey Buckingham Appreciation Society

May 2, 2010
By

Type: Music/Arts – Concert
Date: Monday, May 17, 2010
Time: 8:00pm – 11:00pm
Location: Johnny Brenda’s
Street: 1201 N. Frankford Ave

In appreciation and celebration of musician Lindsey Buckingham’s mad genius and one of modern music’s most “punk rock-soft rock” albums, Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk, The Lindsey Buckingham Appreciation Society will perform its interpretation of the classic 1979 double album in its entirety during three upcoming shows: Saturday, May 15 at Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, Massachusetts; Sunday, May 16 at Union Hall in Brooklyn, New York; and Monday, May 17 at Johnny Brenda’s in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

After five years of “Yeah, we should really do this… no, seriously!’”e-mails, phone calls, and drinking sessions, fellow Lindsey Buckingham/Fleetwood Mac obsessives Charlie Hall (vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who has played drums with Jens Lekman, The War on Drugs, Windsor for the Derby, Tommy Guerrero and others) and Patrick Berkery (drummer for Danielson, Pernice Brothers, Bigger Lovers, Mazarin and others) finally put their musical pipe dream into action in 2009, and found four kindred music spirits to form The Lindsey Buckingham Appreciation Society.

The six-person collective is based out of several points along the I-95 corridor between New England and Philadelphia, and also includes Tony Goddess (formerly of Papas Fritas, currently with Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents), Birdie Busch (a Philadelphia-based singer and songwriter), Samantha Goddess (a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, also of Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents) and Dave Hartley (bassist and vocalist with The Buried Beds, The War on Drugs and BC Camplight).

The Lindsey Buckingham Appreciation Society is not a tribute act and will not perform in costume. The band features no defined character roles and is more a loving exploration of the album than a verbatim reproduction.
